Introduction
In a career now spanning some 40+ years I have had a wide, and sometimes diverse, range of jobs or positions.
My A level studies at school were cut short following a major motorcycle accident, when I lost a finger in the clutch (in fact the finger was sown back on using the latest micro surgery techniques at the time). The moment the careers' master told me I would never make it as an accountant I knew this was the career for me!
During my career as an accountant I became interested, indeed obsessed, with computers. I wasn't particularly interested in the hardware aspect, but the sofware side fascinated me. So much so that I decided to leave the accountancy firm I was then a partner in and set up a company offering computerised accounting services. I also began to sell the very first range of serious micro computers.
During this time I employed a computer programmer to write the code required to provide the accounting services. I soon realised that he was 'talking a different' language, and I felt threatened by this. The answer of course was to learn to write computer programs myself, which I have now been doing ever since. Over the years I have learnt to program in many different languages, many are well known e.g. basic, cobol and visual basic; some are not so well known such as MUMPS.
The final logical step was to learn how to write programs to run on the internet, which I began to do over 10 years ago. Now I am proficient in HTML, PHP, CSS, MySql and Javascript.
