RBOS/Bank of New York
I was first employed as a contractor on a six month contract by the unit trust software arm of the Royal Bank of Scotland, based in central London. I left 5 years later, after my contract had been renewed nine times; during which time the company was taken over by the Bank of New York.
My role as a consultant was to liase directly with clients who had decided to purchase the company's unit trust software, and assist them with the migration of their existing database onto the new system, or to assist them in installing new modules.
In the latter stages I also became heavily involved in the actual migration of the data onto the new system.
During my time with the company I acted as a consultant to many well known financial institutions such as Legal and General, Scottish Widows and Barclays Bank.
Because of my skills as a programmer, which most of the other consultants did not have, I could sit down with the client's programmers and advise them on how best to write the code to migrate the data. In fact on occassions I oversaw the project to do this.
